Västmanland launches new public transport app in collaboration with Ridango

Back to all news

More and more people are using public transport apps to plan their journeys. As cities grow smarter and smartphones become more common, commuters expect better tools to help them move around. In response, Västmanland (VL) in Sweden and Ridango have launched a new mobile app (Google/iOS) that makes daily travel easier. The app includes ticket sales, a journey planner, and live updates about service changes.

Plan and travel with confidence

The new app makes it easy to plan a trip and stay informed. The built-in journey planner helps find the best route from point A to point B. It also shows alerts if there are delays or service changes. A real-time map shows the exact location of each bus, using clear color-coded lines to match routes. This gives passengers better control over their journey.

Smarter ticketing options

Buying tickets in the app is simple. Users can choose between different ticket types — such as singel tickets 24-hour, 10-trip, or (in the future) 30-day passes. They can buy tickets for one area or for use across the whole county. People can also lend a 30-day pass temporarily, making it easier to share between family members.

Designed for daily use

The app is built for real-life travel. Users can save their favourite stops and routes for quick access. They can also search for a stop and see which buses are leaving soon. If the phone screen is cracked, the app allows moving the ticket display to a different part of the screen so it can still be scanned. Purchased tickets remain accessible and can be validated even when the phone has no internet connection. The app also follows WCAG accessibility guidelines, making it easier to use for everyone.

Secure and flexible payments

Tickets can be paid for using Klarna, Visa, Mastercard, Swish, or Företag Flex. This gives users familiar and trusted options when buying tickets in the app.
